TOKYO -- Japan's government on Friday appointed Atsushi Mimura as its top currency diplomat, replacing Masato Kanda.

The 57-year-old Mimura, currently director-general of the Finance Ministry's international bureau, will take over as vice finance minister for international affairs on July 31.
