Berkshire's Q1 stock moves will be revealed soon

Monday is the deadline for institutional investment managers with at least $100 million in assets under management to file a Form 13F with the SEC, listing the publicly-traded U.S. stocks in their portfolio as of March 31, the end of the first quarter.

We'll see if Buffett and his portfolio managers added to the big stakes in Verizon and Chevron that were first revealed in the filing three months ago for Q4.

Berkshire's bank stocks will be another area of interest after they were pared back in the fourth quarter.

And did Berkshire cut back further on its enormous Apple stake ($115.7 billion at today's close) after selling around 6% of its shares last fall?

(Probably not, given that at the annual meeting two weeks ago he admitted it was "probably a mistake," and that Charlie Munger let him know it at the time.)

TheStreet asks, "Will Warren Buffett Follow Cathie Wood And Dump Apple Stock?" and also answers probably not, suggesting that Berkshire may have even added to its stake as Apple's stock price fell back from it's all-time high in late January.

Berkshire shares take a break, but are still well ahead of the S&P

After closing at a new all-time high of $439,460 on Monday, Berkshire Hathaway Class A shares took a little break, going as low as $423,077 in Wednesday's trading.

At today's close just pennies short of $437,259, however, there're back to about where they were one week ago.

And that puts Berkshire year-to-date gain close to 26%, more than double the benchmark S&P 500's 11.1% advance (11.7% including dividends).

BERKSHIRE'S TOP U.S. STOCK HOLDINGS - May 14, 2021

Berkshire's top holdings of disclosed publicly-traded U.S. stocks by market value, based on today's closing prices.

Holdings are as of December 31, 2020 as reported in Berkshire Hathaway’s 13F filing on February 16, 2021, except for Apple, Bank of America, and U.S. Bancorp, which also include shares held as of December 31, 2020 as disclosed in New England Asset Management’s 13F filing on February 16, 2021.

In addition to U.S. stocks, shares held as of December 31, 2020 of China's BYD, as listed in Buffett's 2020 letter to shareholders, are included. The price of those shares in U.S. trading is used to approximate the current market value of the position. The value of the stake as a percentage of the company's market value is fixed at what was listed as of December 31, 2020 in the letter.
