Warren Buffett is still #3 Warren Buffett is the third richest person in the world ... for the fourth year in a row ... according to the new Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans.
The magazine estimates Buffett's net wealth was $80.8 billion as of September 6, the day the list was "locked in." That's down from last year's $88.3 billion. (As of today, Forbes puts Buffett's net worth at $82.2 billion.)
Even after his $36 billion divorce, Amazon's Jeff Bezos tops the list with $114 billion, down from $160 billion last year. (His ex, MacKenzie Bezos, debuts on the list at #15.)
Bill Gates remains #2 with $106 billion, but he's now only $8 billion behind Jeff Bezos. He's also $25 billion ahead of his friend Warren.
Buffett is about $11 billion ahead of Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg. ![]() http://www.berkshirehathaway.com/donate/bmgfltr.pdfSince 2006, Buffett has been giving annual gifts in the billions of dollars to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and family charities. Forbes estimates he's given away 32% of his net worth.
Even so, thanks to gains in Berkshire's stock price, his net worth has roughly doubled over the past decade.
Berkshire's battery battle Duracell, a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, is accused of false advertising in a lawsuit filed by rival Energizer Holdings.
Energizer's complaint, according to Reuters, is that while Duracell boasts its new Optimum batteries have "extra life" and "extra power," you have to read the small print to learn the comparison is to Duracell's own Coppertop batteries, not products from other companies.
Reuters says Duracell did not immediately respond to its requests for a comment.
