Tesla's market value tops Berkshire Hathaway

There's a new milestone this week in the very low-key rivalry between Elon Musk and Warren Buffett.

As noted by Business Insider, thanks to its extraordinary enthusiasm among some investors, Musk's Tesla has a market value of $546 billion as of today's close vs $543 billion for Berkshire.

Tesla's revenues last year, however, are a bit more than one-tenth of Berkshire's top line and its price-to-earnings ratio is an astronomical 1161.

Even so, Tesla shares gained another 2% today to close at a record high of $585.76, up 600% this year. (That, of course, takes into account its 5-for-1 stock split at the end of August.)

In the head-to-head between the two CEOs, Tesla's stock gain has put Musk far ahead with an estimated net worth of $132 billion (#3 on the Forbes real-time ranking), compared to $87.4 billion for Buffett, ranked #6.
