Berkshire has reduced its BYD stake by 27% as sales continue
Berkshire Hathaway's stake in Chinese electric carmaker BYD crossed below 15% last week, prompting another filing in Hong Kong that shows sales are continuing.
The exchange there requires a disclosure when a holder's stake, as measured by the percentage of shares it owns compared to the company's total outstanding shares, is above 5% and crosses a whole number.
We first learned that Berkshire was selling in August when it disclosed its stake had dropped to just below 20%.
As of the end of last year, Berkshire reported holding all of the 225 million BYD shares it bought in 2008 for around $230 million.
As of December 8, it still owned 164.1 million shares, a reduction of 27.1%.
At today's close, they are valued at around $4.3 billion, making it Berkshire's 11th biggest equity holding.
